Three of the UK’s leading power generators and a power plant manufacturer have come together to assist managers and engineers from the Nigerian Power Industry in their understanding of current generation technologies.

Igwe Agwu Onuoha, Technical Committee Deputy Chairman, being presented with his certificate by Peter Seavill of Aztec Technical Services Limited

The party first visited the international power plant at Rugeley where Operations Manager Dave Hewetson gave them a presentation on how an existing coal plant is being converted to utilise FGD plant to meet future environmental requirements.

The party’s second visit was hosted by Station Manager Paul Baker at Centrica’s Barry Power Station in South Wales, where a 230MW CCGT site has been fully operational for a number of years.

The third site visited was RWE nPower’s site at Little Barford in Cambridgeshire. This is one of the country’s largest CCGTs which allowed the party a comparison with Barry in terms of size and generation capacity. Finally, they visited a large CCGT station under construction at Marchwood in Hampshire. This visit was hosted by Siemens, the site's main contractor.

The 10-day visit was organised by Aptec Engineers Technical Services Limited, and the technical operations training for this visit was delivered by Aztec Technical Services Limited.
